Hanging On

I've seen it before
And I'll see it again
A couple just hanging on
Even though the words
Are no longer gentle
And the caresses
No longer sincere

But the memories
Of what once was beautiful
And the fear and uncertainty
Of loneliness
Make them cling to each other
Long after good bye
Would be appropriate
